Rare China SL28 & Experimental Fermentation Bundle

Experience the cutting edge of Chinese specialty coffee with our exclusive China Experimental Bundle. This curated bundle brings together three of the most sought-after lots from the high altitudes of Yunnan, featuring the elusive SL28 variety and the innovative Project One Light (POL) experimental processing series.

From the pristine "Forest Organic" micro-climates of Pu’er to the precision-controlled fermentation labs of Mangshi, this bundle is a journey through the future of Asian specialty coffee.

What’s Inside the Bundle?

1. China Ruru SL28 Natural (Forest Organic)

Rare China SL28 & Experimental Fermentation Bundle V5COFFEE

The Rare Gem: Originally Kenya’s star variety, SL28 is notoriously difficult to cultivate in China. This batch is a rare fate-driven harvest from the Pu’er National Forest Park.

The Experience: 100% Organic and wild-grown in a primeval ecosystem. Expect vibrant acidity with notes of dried apricot, berries, and white chocolate.

2. Project One Light - Peach Oolong (Anaerobic Yeast Natural)

Rare China SL28 & Experimental Fermentation Bundle V5COFFEE

Precision Science: Utilising "Yeast-Assisted" and "Enzymatic Reaction" processing. No additives or extracts, just pure, lab-level fermentation control.

Tasting Notes: Intense natural peach sweetness, rose, and a clean, lychee finish.

3. Project One Light - Blue Iris (Anaerobic Yeast Honey)

Rare China SL28 & Experimental Fermentation Bundle V5COFFEE

The Floral Masterpiece: Another refined yeast control processing method that focuses on elaborating the floral elegance and high-definition flavour clarity.

The Experience: Extremely clean mouthfeel with notes of stewed pear, sugarcane, and lychee.

Frequently asked questions

What makes the China SL28 coffee variety in this bundle so rare for home filter brewing?
The SL28 coffee variety, famous for its Kenyan heritage, is extremely difficult to cultivate in China due to differing climate requirements. Our China Ruru SL28 Natural is a rare, fate-driven harvest grown wild in the primeval ecosystem of the Pu’er National Forest Park. For home filter brewers, this "Forest Organic" micro-climate yields a totally unique profile -expect the classic vibrant acidity of a Kenyan SL28, but with distinct notes of dried apricot and white chocolate uniquely shaped by pristine Chinese terroir.
I usually avoid anaerobic coffees because they taste "funky." Will I like the Project One Light experimental processing?
Absolutely. As filter coffee purists, we chose the Project One Light (POL) series because it utilises lab-level precision - specifically "Yeast-Assisted" and "Enzymatic Reaction" fermentations, rather than traditional, uncontrolled anaerobic methods. This strict bio-tech control eliminates the unpredictable, boozy "funk," resulting in an ultra-clean, high-definition cup that purely highlights natural sugars and delicate floral notes like rose and peach.
Does the Peach Oolong Project One Light coffee contain artificial peach flavouring or extracts?
No, there are zero additives, syrups, or artificial extracts in any V5 Coffee roast. The intense natural peach sweetness, rose aromas, and clean lychee finish in this coffee are achieved entirely through precision Anaerobic Yeast Natural fermentation. By strictly controlling the yeast and temperature during processing in Mangshi, the coffee cherry naturally develops these complex, fruit-forward tasting notes.
What is the best pour-over recipe to dial in these experimental light roasts at home?
To achieve the highest flavour clarity for both the SL28 and the experimental POL coffees, we recommend our V5 Signature pour-over method. Use a 1:15 brew ratio (20g of medium-fine coffee to 300g of water) and brew at 93°C. Aim for a total brew time of exactly 2 minutes and 30 seconds. This parameter set perfectly extracts the delicate floral elegance and sweetness without introducing bitterness into your cup.
Are these beans a dedicated filter roast, and how long should I rest them before brewing?
Yes, all three coffees in this bundle are given a dedicated, light filter roast profile right here at our Melbourne roastery to ensure they shine on a V60, Chemex, or Aeropress. Because these are light roasts packed with complex experimental processing flavours, we highly recommend resting the beans for 10 to 14 days from the roast date. This allows the CO2 to fully degas, ensuring an even extraction and a significantly sweeter, cleaner cup.
How do the distinct yeast control processing methods shape the filter profiles of the Peach Oolong and Blue Iris?
While both coffees belong to the innovative Project One Light series, they use tailored yeast control processing methods to achieve very different results in your cup. The Peach Oolong undergoes an Anaerobic Yeast Natural process, which drives heavier, intense fruit notes and a syrupy sweetness. The Blue Iris utilizes another highly refined yeast control processing method designed specifically to elaborate on floral elegance and high-definition flavour clarity. For home brewers, this means the Blue Iris delivers an extremely clean mouthfeel with bright, articulate notes of stewed pear and sugarcane.
